Egg Donor Recipient: Trying to Conceive?
Immediate Availability of Qualified Donors
Fact: Since 2004, our ova donor program has had a clinical pregnancy success rate of over 80% per embryo transfer.

This success is, in part, due to our experience and laboratory expertise, and, in part, due to the fact that all of our ova donors are between the ages of twenty and twenty nine years old. Our anonymous donor egg program has no waiting list, and all of our donors undergo genetic, psychological, medical and infectious disease testing
We believe that our ova donor program is one of the strongest in the country because of our personalized care and dedication to you, our patient. As a part of this dedication, at Dominion Fertility all eggs obtained are used exclusively for you.
We do not share your eggs with other patients.
This is so we can give you your best chances for a successful pregnancy.
We have had outstanding success with ova donation. Please feel free to review our egg donor success rates. For information on the donors physical characteristics, educational background, ethnic origin, and special interests, please view our donor catalogue.

Dominion Fertility’s Position on Shared Ova Donor IVF
What is Egg Sharing?
Egg Sharing is when two or more couples use the same egg donor for an IVF cycle. However many eggs the donor produces during the cycle, the total number is split between the patient recipients.
How many eggs do the recipients receive?
The number of eggs each recipient receives varies because every donor responds to the ovarian stimulation medications differently. Whatever the outcome, whether it be zero or twenty, the eggs that the donor has produced are split between the recipients. However, the quality of the eggs is almost always different, and many are not of very high quality.
Can the eggs differ in quality?
Yes, eggs do vary in quality so it is most difficult to determine which couple gets the best “graded” eggs.
Why has Dominion Fertility chosen NOT to have a shared donor egg program?
As mentioned above, all eggs are not of the same quality. Unfortunately, it is impossible to tell which ones will or will not produce high quality embryos and ultimately babies. Thus, the patient may have to incur more costs by undergoing more treatments than they would have if all of the eggs had been “dedicated” to them. When “dedicating” all of the eggs to one patient, there is a much higher chance of pregnancy.
One dedicated donor per recipient usually means that there is one chance to do a fresh IVF cycle, and also the possibility of having extra embryos. The extra embryos may be frozen and transferred later if the first cycle does not result in pregnancy. Donor sharing does not usually result in extra embryos. Thus, ova donor sharing may not really save money or time if the first attempt is unsuccessful.
Donor sharing produces babies that may be close in age and proximity yet, they will have no knowledge of one another. This creates clear ethical concerns a parent should consider, especially as the child grows older.
Dominion Fertility feels that egg sharing may appear alluring because of a lower initial cost, but it often ends in heartache. We feel the best policy is to have one dedicated donor for each recipient patient. Dominion Fertility’s commitment to individualized care has long achieved outstanding ova donor IVF results. (See our ova donor statistics.) Our decision to not participate in egg sharing is just one more example of our dedication to that policy.

Medical Indications for Egg Donation
More than 150,000 women in the United States cannot bear children because of ovarian dysfunction. Listed below are some reasons for using donor ova:
- Age related infertility
- Previously failed fertility treatment
- Premature ovarian failure / Menopause / Removal of ovaries
- Genetic disease
- Radiation therapy
Why Seek Egg Donation? Why Not Just Adopt?
- There is a strong desire to experience pregnancy.
- Parents do not want to adopt or have experienced failed attempts at adoption.
- Adoption is costly
- Home study is required
- Legal issues must be addressed
- There is a waiting period of 1-3 years
- Social / cultural reasons
- Patients have more control over prenatal environment and health with ova donation.
- The couple desires the male partner?s biological child.
There are many advantages of egg donation over adoption. Importantly, the recipient is able to control the prenatal environment through nutrition and psychological input. Also, many women have the desire to experience pregnancy from conception through breastfeeding. This would not be possible with adoption.
What is the cost?
Egg donation is expensive, and most insurance companies do not cover the costs of donor egg. Our financial counselors are available to provide information and to work closely with you throughout your entire cycle. For information about our anonymous donor egg financial guarantee, please visit our IVF Guarantee page.
What are the success rates?
Since 2004, our ova donor program has achieved a clinical pregnancy rate of over 80% per embryo transfer of only 1-2 embryos. The incidence of twin pregnancy is 20-30%. Please visit our Success Rates page to view the statistics in table form.
Donor Screening
All Dominion Fertility Ova Donors are screened for HIV using both the standard testing, and PCR. They are also tested for hepatitis B and C, general health profile, prolactin, RPR, TORCH, thyroid function, cervical cultures, and pap smear. The donor's partner is tested for HIV, hepatitis B and C, and RPR. Genetic testing is performed on all new ova donors. In addition to medical testing, all donors must have at least one psychological evaluation. Patients seeking ova donation have a strong input into deciding which donor they will use. Our Egg Donor Coordinator works closely with all patients to ensure that the best possible complement is achieved.
