Egg Donation at Dominion Fertility

Thank you for your interest in participating in our Egg Donation program. We are currently seeking young women between the ages of 20 and 29 to donate their eggs so that infertile couples may have a family.

Egg donation requires a significant time commitment on the part of a donor, but the reward for helping an infertile couple (or individual) realize their goal of becoming a biologic parent is one of the greatest gifts that one person can give to another.

We have the greatest respect and appreciation for the women who ultimately participate in the Egg Donation Program. However, only a small percentage of those women who express interest in the program ultimately become donors. Some women decide that the process is too arduous whereas others are excluded for medical reasons.

Some of the concerns expressed by prospective donors are addressed below:

Q. What is the time commitment for egg donation?

A. Once you are selected by one of our patients, your time commitment will be approximately one menstrual cycle. Monitoring appointments may be arranged for as early as 7 AM, and every effort is made to accommodate your schedule as much as possible.

Q. What characteristics are you looking for in a donor?

A. We are currently seeking a wide range of donors to provide a variety of options for our patients. Previous pregnancy (whether carried to term or not) is a plus.

Q. Will I have to undergo surgery?

A. No, the eggs are retrieved vaginally by needle biopsy, under conscious sedation. You will need to arrange for someone to give you a ride home on retrieval day.

Q. Will I still be able to have children after egg donation?

A. Yes. Human females have the potential to produce billions of eggs in a lifetime, and even repeated use of fertility drugs cannot "use up" your egg supply. Many donors participate in the egg donation program more than once, then go on to have children of their own.

Q. What if the cycle fails before my eggs are donated?

A. You will be reimbursed on a pro-rata basis for your time calculated upon the number of days of stimulatory medications taken during the cycle.

Q. Will I have any expenses in connection with egg donation?

A. The recipient will pay for all your medical and psychological testing and for all the medications. You are responsible only for costs of transportation to appointments.

Q. Will I be told anything about the outcome of the egg donation procedure?

A. No. Strict patient confidentiality will be observed. The patient couple will not be told your name or any other identifying information, and you will not be told anything about them, including whether or not a pregnancy resulted from your egg donation.

Q. What is the amount of reimbursement?

A. Our donors receive $8,000 after the egg retrieval procedure.

Q. Will I have to claim taxes on the money I receive?

A. Yes. Dominion Fertility will send you an I9 form at the end of the year.
