Michael DiMattina, MD
Medical Director
Dr. Michael DiMattina is the Director of Dominion Fertilityin Arlington, Virginia which he founded in 1987. In 2008, his peersvoted him as the top infertility doctor in the Washington, D.C. areain Washingtonian magazine, and since 1992 he has been listed multiple times as atop doctor. He is board certified in both Obstetrics and Gynecology,and subspecialty certified in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility.
Dr. DiMattina is a clinical associate professorin Obstetrics and Gynecology at Georgetown University Hospital.He graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.S. in Chemistry from theAmerican University. He then performed cancer research at the National Institutesof Health before attending medical school at the Medical College ofVirginia.
Dr.DiMattina completed his internship/residency at GeorgetownUniversity, and his fellowship in Reproductive Medicine at Georgetownand the NIH. During that time he studied advanced techniquesin IVF at Kings College Hospital in London, England.He has been performing IVF since 1984, and has had many firstsin the field of Reproductive Medicine.

In December 2006, Dr.DiMattina was one of only three American doctorsto attend the "First World Congress in Natural Cycle IVF" in London,England, and in March 2007 he performed the first successful Natural Cycle IVFprocedure in the Washington, D.C. area. His current interests are in unstimulatedand Natural Cycle IVF.
Since 1986, Dr. DiMattina has actively taught the Georgetown UniversityOB/GYN medical students and residents, and for this, was awarded the ACOG, "Councilon Resident Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology National Faculty Award"for excellence in teaching in 2007.
Dr. DiMattina is co-author of the book "100 Questions and AnswersAbout Infertility." He also volunteers his time at a local non-profit OB/GYNclinic providing GYN care to indigent patients.

John David Gordon, MD
Co-Director
Dr. John David Gordon is the Co-Director of Dominion Fertilityand a Clinical Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at The GeorgeWashington University in Washington D.C. As a professor, he provides weekly lectures in Reproductive Endocrinology to the Obstetrics and Gynecologyinterns, residents, and medical students from The George WashingtonUniversity. He is board-certified in Obstetrics and Gynecologyand subspecialty certified in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility.
Dr. Gordon graduated summa-cum-laude from Princeton University with a degree in Biology. Heattended medical school at Duke University. Dr. Gordonwas an intern in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Texas HealthSciences Center in Houston. He completed his residency in Obstetricsand Gynecology at Stanford University Medical Center and his fellowshipin Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the University of California,San Francisco.
Dr. Gordon is the editor of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Infertility,a best-selling handbook with over 150,000 copies in print thatis used worldwide by medical students, residents, physicians, and women's healthcareproviders. Dr. Gordon has been honored on numerousoccasions for his educational activities including the Council on Resident Educationin Obstetrics and Gynecology (CREOG) National Resident Teaching Awardthree times in the past 9 years.
Patients are welcome to post questions to Dr.Gordon on the INCIID website wherehe has moderated the IVF and High-Tech Treatments bulletin boardfor nearly a decade. Dr. Andrea Reh
Reproductive Endocrinologist
Dominion Fertility is pleased to announce the expansion of ourpractice with the addition of a new reproductive endocrinologistto our team. Dr. Andrea Reh will be joining us in August of 2010 to meet the growingneeds of new patients and our practice.
Dr. Reh was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and graduated magna-cum-laudefrom Cornell University with a bachelor of arts in biology. She then received hermedical degree at Georgetown University here in beautiful Washington D.C., whereshe graduated with Alpha Omega Alpha honors. Dr. Reh completed her internship andresidency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the New York PresbyterianHospital – Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York City. During residency,she served as the administrative chief resident and was selected as an outstandingresident in Gynecologic Endoscopy by the American Associationof Gynecologic Laparoscopists.
Dr. Reh is currently completing her Fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinologyand Infertility at the NYU Fertility Center with the NYU School ofMedicine in New York City. During this time, she has received the Berlex FoundationFaculty Development Research Award and authored several publications. Dr. Reh hasalso given numerous presentations at national meetings on issues related to IVF stimulation protocols, donor egg, fertility preservation,blastocyst transfer, and thyroid disease.
Dr. Reh is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Dr. Mark Payson
Reproductive Endocrinologist
Dr. Mark Payson received his M.D. degree through a combined program with Dartmouth Medical School and Brown University School of Medicine. His residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology was undertaken at the National Naval Medical Center, and his fellowship training at the National Institutes of Health. He is board certified in both Obstetrics /Gynecology and Reproductive Endocrinology/Infertility. Currently he is the director of the military’s IVF program at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
In his life before medicine, Dr. Payson graduated from Harvard University with a degree in Film and Literature, while also pursuing research in astrophysics. He then worked overseas in Italy and the Czech Republic for several years, before returning to the states where he completed premedical training at Columbia University. He has since published multiple research papers in the field of infertility and presented at national meetings. He is particularly interested in the psychological stress of infertility therapy, and seeks to make the process as straightforward and stress free as possible.
At Dominion Fertility, Dr. Payson has been covering the weekend monitoring and IVF procedures. Beginning in 2011, available to see new patients for infertility consultations on select Saturdays. We are hoping to have Dr. Payson full time at Dominion Fertility in 2012 after he completes his military commitments.

Awie Botes, BSC, ELD (ABB)
Awie Botes is the Dominion Fertility Embryology Laboratory Director,and has over 30 years experience in the field. Born and raised in South Africa,Awie completed his Bachelors of Science in Human Physiology and Geneticswhile living there. He began his career in a human genetics laboratoryactively doing research and development in in vitro fertilizationand human cytogenetics. During that time he was instrumental asLaboratory Manager, developing two of the very first successfulin vitro fertilization laboratories in South Africa where the firstIVF baby was born in 1983.
In 1992, Awie relocated to the United States and worked as Laboratory Managerin two different clinics in California. During this time he became board certifiedas Technical Supervisor in Embryology and Andrology through the AmericanBoard of Bioanalysis. In 2002, Dominion Fertilitywas fortunate to have Awie join us to lead our embryology team. In 2004, he becameboard certified as an Embryology Laboratory Director through theAmerican Board of Bioanalysis.
For the past 7 years, Awie has utilized his extensive experience with tissueculture, human genetics and embryology to refine the quality of thelaboratory techniques employed at Dominion. Patient identity andisolation has dramatically improved, and our pregnancy and implantation ratesare comprable to the best in the world today.
Awie's close association with the development of IVF, and the inceptionof the technologies, leads him to continually strive to improve the quality andtechnology used in our IVF lab today. Some of the state ofthe art technologies we now offer as routine laboratory services includeblastocyst culturing, Natural Cycle IVF, NaturalCycle FET (frozen embryo transfer), and vitrification (fast freezing)of embryos with much higher survival rates.
With the assistance of our highly qualified and dedicated embryologists,Awie will continue to improve outcomes at Dominion Fertility. Hehas a motto, "Every embryo counts," and to that end, he strivesto help every patient couple become a family.
In January 2009, Awie traveled back to South Africa to attend the wedding of a twinhe helped conceive in the first IVF laboratory he set up there.Awie has maintained a close relationship with this family because seeng them struggleto go from a professional couple in a sterile house, to a family in a home has beenan inspiration to him in his career.
