Another First That’s Really a Second

A 32-year-old patient at Dominion Fertility has successfully conceived for the second time through fertilization with Natural Cycle IVF (NCIVF). Her pregnancy represents the first successful sibling NCIVF pregnancy in the Washington, D.C. area.

When this woman first became a patient at Dominion Fertility she was 30-years-old and had never been pregnant. She and her husband had been attempting to conceive for 2 years when they learned that their infertility was due to a male factor with low sperm count, motility and morphology. At the first clinic the couple went to they underwent treatment using clomid/gonadotropins with IUI for 3 cycles. When this failed to result in pregnancy, their doctor recommended IVF.

The patient came to Dominion Fertility in search of an alternative and immediately inquired about Natural Cycle IVF. Two months later her first NCIVF treatment was performed and she became pregnant. She delivered a healthy son in February 2008. In August 2008 she returned to try for her second child. This time, her second attempt on February 18th resulted in pregnancy and she currently has a healthy 7-week pregnancy.

Natural Cycle IVF requires no ovarian stimulation medications because it simply uses the one egg a woman’s body naturally releases each cycle. It is a virtually risk free treatment that is far less expensive than traditional stimulated IVF. While not everyone is a candidate for Natural Cycle IVF, we have recently extended this option to more women with our IVF Hope program.

Dominion Fertility is currently in the process of writing up and submitting for publication their over 2 years of experience with Natural Cycle IVF. Doctors from across the country have been inquiring about this innovative treatment program, and Dominion Fertility firmly believes that many more clinics will begin offering NCIVF in the coming years.
