Acupuncture and Infertility Treatment
Acupuncture can be a wonderful complement to fertility treatments. We recently met with an acupuncturist who treats patients undergoing treatment for infertility for a variety of reasons. He described the process as a way to “restore the body’s natural ecosystem to a state of equilibrium”.

We have many patients who use acupuncture before, during and after treatment cycle to increase the odds of success. Treatments are recommended at the beginning of the journey to help you become more aware of your overall health – Are you seeping well? Are you staying hydrated? Are you eating enough (and the right types of food)? Are you torn in several stressful directions – all at the same time? Are you able to manage daily stress along with the stress of trying to get pregnant? We agreed that the holistic approach is a more thorough, thoughtful way to consider all the different factors that can help to improve your chances of pregnancy. Sometimes a patient becomes so focused on the wanted pregnancy, they can forget that nutrition, rest and stress relief are all important steps in the process. Acupuncture can be that forced time out in your day where you are truly focused on your body and your emotions.
Surprisingly enough, I learned that acupuncture is frequently covered by insurance.
Surprisingly enough, I learned that acupuncture is frequently covered by insurance. It may not be covered under ‘infertility’, but under the diagnosis that’s causing the infertility – like PCOS. As with everything else insurance related, if you are considering seeking treatment, you will want to check with your carrier to see if you are covered and what providers are in your network – this will help to minimize your out of pocket costs.
Acupuncture has been used in China for centuries for all types of medical conditions, and it may be something to consider.
