During the holidays, we enjoyed being with our families, and of course, cooking and EATING. If your post-holiday plans include fitting fertility treatment into your calendar during the new year, and you wonder if there is anything you or your partner can do to help with the outcome, please read more…
Yes, while you are doing your fertility treatment, your partner can help to improve your odds of having a healthy baby, and yes, fried food has something to do with it!
The American Society for Reproductive Medicine’s Annual Meeting was held in Baltimore recently, and reported that new research indicates a high-fat diet, not just being obese, could impact fertility in both men and women.
“Fertilization rates were found to be lowest in couples where men had diets high in trans-fat intake. These foods include cakes, pies, cookies, biscuits, doughnuts, fried fast food, and frozen pizza”
A team from the Harvard School of Public Health and Massachusetts General Hospital studied the impact of high trans-fat intake, specifically in men. Men who were part of couples undergoing Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) treatments were given food journals. Fertilization rates were found to be lowest in couples where men had diets high in trans-fat intake. These foods include cakes, pies, cookies, biscuits, doughnuts, fried fast food, and frozen pizza.
The food industry uses trans fats to enhance taste and texture and make foods last longer. Unfortunately, that’s not all trans fats do. Their consumption increases risk for many chronic diseases, such as heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes. Your recommended daily intake of trans fat is about zero grams!
Going into the new year, make your resolutions early to enjoy healthy, great-tasting food with the loved ones. Not only will it protect your heart but it will also help you achieve your fertility goals.
Happy new year from Dominion Fertility!
