Do I Need PGS/PGT or PGD?

Genetic testing your embryos at Dominion

All the terminology can be overwhelming when you are considering fertility treatment.  At Dominion Fertility we want our patients to be educated and knowledgeable about their treatment options.  We are going to define PGT and PGD and let you know how these tests can help you have a successful fertility outcome. Most unsuccessful IVF treatments are a result of transferring a genetically abnormal embryo. The reason doctors’ use to transfer more than 1 embryo is they had no way of knowing which ones were normal or abnormal.  All embryos can look good under a microscope, but only a biopsy (PGT) can give us the truth.

Preimplantation Genetic Screening (PGS),now called Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT), looks only at the chromosomes to test if the embryo is normal (euploid) or abnormal (aneuploidy).  This way we know we are transferring a chromosomal normal embryo, which will most likely develop into a healthy normal pregnancy.  PGT also decreases the chance for miscarriage.

Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) studies the DNA of embryos to look for those that carry a certain mutation for genetic disease.  This is a good test to use when there is a known genetic disorder in the family.

The Doctors at Dominion Fertility recommend performing PGT; it saves our patients money and time by not going through multiple cycles of IVF. Dominion Fertility is proud to offer our patients the lowest cost in the area for PGT $150 per embryo. This allows all our patients to have access to the latest technology, to ensure a successful outcome.
